I know, I know. I want! I'm pretty much in love with two things on the Urban Outfitters site.

    and

Yeah, I'm actually super lame and no one is surprised. Things like this make me wish I lived in Edmonton or Vancouver, because then I could buy them and my life would be complete. Let's be honest, that Charlie Brown tree? More room for presents!

So, Chapters is going well. I'm secretly kind of in love with books. I keep doing re-shelve or tasking and finding books that I'm like "Hm, I want to read this." But I'm being very careful about not buying everything I see or I'd definitely need to buy a new bookshelf right away.

I already need a new bookshelf. As soon as I move out, I'll probably look into getting this:

because it can handle LPs and oversized books. I'll likely get it in black, though. I might grab a storage basket or two for the miscellaneous 45s and headphones and cords and whatnot that I have.

I'm finally getting a physical copy of Howl
This week is going to be a little more relaxed than last week. In no particular order, I must:
    • Change my car's oil
    • Get a quote on repairing the driver's side door of my car
    • Take wire CD rack to Meghan
    • Rip some more CDs to my laptop
    • Pick up the last of my Christmas shopping: 1 physical gift card, 3 online orders of gift cards, and 1 gift for the boy who has everything except me.
    • Get a hair cut
    • Wrap Christmas gifts
    • Write 3000 words
    • Obtain a copy of How I Met Your Mother Season 1/2

I might also buy The Bro Code, because that shit is awesome. For example:

A bro's mom is off-limits at all times, unless she's a step-mother, she initiates it and is wearing leopard print.

You really can't make that up, can you?

    Wearing Pants Makes You Popular

The title of today's blog comes from a sign I saw today in H&M. I have my doubts about the truthfulness of it. If people were meant to wear pants, there wouldn't be the show Pants Off Dance Off, now would there?

    Bygones.

I'm currently updating from Mitchell's bed in Vancouver. It's not as sexy as it sounds. No, actually it is. I arrived yesterday evening amidst unusual circumstances and was whisked away to sushi with Mitchell. After, we watched Everything Gone Green and had drinks.

It's a wonderful movie and I highly recommend it. There were things I picked up on yesterday that I didn't pick up on the first time I watched it. One thing I cannot stress enough is that you should not watch it if you're only watching it because you think it's a stoner comedy. The cover does the film a horrendous disservice by making one think it's some comedy to watch a) about getting blazed or b) while one is blazed. For God's sake, it's by Douglas Coupland!

This is the cover of the "Unrated Edition", the one that makes it look like a stoner comedy.

This is the "Rated Edition", that much more accurately depicts the film's content.

Ugh. Forget this, I'm going to just tell you that today I bought:

    A jacket
    3 CDs
    4 DVDs
    1 Comic

And now I'm going to go. While I have the chance, I'll say sorry in advance for all the drunk dials.

Let's go outside and we'll play William Tell

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

When you start listening to me, I'll start listening to you.

    Update in point form!

Just kidding on that last one, I love your face. This update has been brought to you by the letters C, M, K, and the number 7.

    Go Team Hannah!

Today I started reading “Eats, Shoots and Leaves” by Lynne Truss. I'm hoping to become a more grammatical person. It already seems very dry and witty.

Work went well today. I found out last week that one of the co-workers I work closely with is moving to our US office. It's going to be an adjustment without Adam around but life is about adjustment. I went for a walk at noon today to get some pop from 7-11. It's nice to step outside and remember that you are more than just your awesome ability with HS codes and ability to sweet talk customs agents.

I had a brief moment of self-doubt this afternoon and it felt really, really terrible. But I'm trying to work through things like that so I can be a better person so I sat down and repeated in my head “This is not because you're boring or uncool or unlikeable.” Of course, admitting that on a blog makes me boring, uncool, and unlikeable. But I don't really care, because this is for me. The people who read it just get the privilege of knowing me that much better after the fact.

I went to The Rocket after work at got a really, reallllly sweet shirt printed. Remember Hannah? I know you guys all know who Hannah is and how she makes my days go a lot smoother with “HO NO!” ANYWAY, check this out:

I'd like everyone to meet the Captain of Team Hannah.

Sometimes being a girl sucks because words curve where you don't want them to.

99, because I knew it was some really awesome hockey player's number. Turns out it was Wayne Gretzky. Meet The Great One.

Oh, she's just being Mindy. This is in bed, which is actually where 99% of my pictures are taken. I'm not perverted. Just lazy.

And now I'm going to go get a really good night's sleep. But I'll leave you with this picture:

$8.50. I won't even show you the other two I got for $4 each, you'll just die of jealousy. Well. Not over Terry Jacks, but over The Muppets and John Denver's Christmas Special.

Mitchell was right about green tea and using the bag twice. That sounds a little dirtier than it needed to, but whatever. I wish the rain would stop here. Sometimes I forget that spring is now the rainy season here. We used to have actual spring, now we just have grey skies. The first year I noticed it was when The Day After Tomorrow came out. That came out and then all of a sudden, Calgary just decided to rain and rain and rain. It worried me for the first month.

    It no longer worries me.

I got the sweetest Christmas/Birthday present from Mitchell and I keep looking at it with glee. There's a store in Vancouver called Inform Interiors. Douglas Coupland did a limited edition SIGG water bottle for them, limited to 130, and then did a limited edition book of two short stories from Life After God, also limited to a 130. They were then sold in a set and Mitchell got them for me because he is basically the most awesome person in the world.

I've also been unable to stop laughing because of this girl named Hannah. Everything around her goes wrong and so we've basically turned her life into our inside joke. [Note: I'm not kidding, she just fails. She asked a large woman when her due date was.] Every few hours I get a text that says "HO NO! MY HOUSE ON FIRE >.< *POOPING NOISE*" ... Guess you had to be there.

Anyway, I need new shoes as I discovered dreadful holes in my current ones. See above for reasons that holy shoes don't really fly with me.

I'm kind of anal about the order of my books. They go alphabetical by author and then alphabetical by book title. Tonight, I was putting away The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks and I noticed I was missing one of my Dave Eggers books. I cannot find A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius! I do not know where it went, at all. I can only think of a few people I loan books to and I don't think any of them have it? If that's the case, I haven't actually had it with me for two years and it's currently sitting somewhere in my aunt's house in Edmonton. I knew living in that city for a month was a bad idea. Oh well, if I have to replace it, I have to. Shit happens.

I'm currently on Week 2 of my transit experiment. I'm still enjoying it, though I'm sure that will change once the weather turns nasty in the city. Today, I sat on the train and read about twenty pages of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. I'm enjoying that quite a bit. I'm not sure what I'm going to go with after I read that, but it'll be amusing as well.

I'm slowly depleting my massive reading list. Unfortunately, it's still going far too slow for my liking. I think what I'm going to do as a goal next year is get one of those "100 Books You Should Read" lists and try to get through all hundred of them in a year.

Instead of sleeping, I'm blogging and looking at other blogs. I wonder what people will think in twenty years when they think about us using blogs. Will they look at it the same way I look at writing in a paper journal? That is to say, will they think it's a romantic notion but find it difficult to keep up with and ultimately impossible to commit to?

Hm. Also, I'm avoiding the new Indiana Jones movie. I'm not into it, guys.

    Tuesday, May 27, 2008

A list, in no particular order:

    1. It's been brought to my attention that someone thinks I'm sad, which is not the case at all. Nine times out of ten, the mean/angry/bitter/sad things I say on here aren't meant as such. Intonation is key. Picture me actually saying it. I promise that I'm happy.

    2. My boss is out of town for 4 more work days. I don't want to do work on any of those days.

    3. If you haven't downloaded this, I effectively cease our friendship. I dare you to listen to Believe and not picture someone playing it to you while you both sit on a couch, barefoot, the listener watching closely, the performer with their head ducked and not making eye contact. I dare you.

    4. I really want a Sunbeam Heated Blanket and I can't find them anywhere. I blame summer.

    5. I really, really can't work with kids anymore. I have to get away from teenage drama.

    6. I'm going to be twenty-three in a few weeks. This is more exciting to me than it should be.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Fail

I'm so happy I didn't work Wednesday or Thursday evening at the theatre. There was so much fail going on tonight with my staff and my guests and my life.

First of all, I'm trying to go a little more green and start using public transportation. I should be rewarded for my efforts. Or they should at least go a little smoother than they went today. I woke up bright and early and caught the 7:11 a.m. bus to the train station and caught a train going the opposite way I wanted to go. This was on purpose. I'm one stop away from the end of the line and then I ride the train almost to the complete other end of the line. I wanted a seat. So, I took the train into downtown and everything went smoothly. It was nice out, I got to wear my sassy new raincoat and be gleeful that it was not yet raining.

I should've quit there. I should've quit right then and there and said "Thanks for the wonderful day, life." No, I got in and I did nothing but work for the entire day. Now, most days I'll make time to check out my favourite blogs and see what's going on in the world at large. There wasn't even time for that.

After work, I went to catch the bus to take me to the theatre. Now, I know the 301 takes me to the theatre. Great, I miss a 301 but the next one is due in 11 minutes. That's not horrible. I'll wait for it and feel awesome about myself for caring a little about the environment.

I got on the wrong 301. This one took me to the southwest rather than the northeast. Of course, I was reading The Zombie Survival Guide and learning how to do search and destroy/reclamation missions, so I didn't really pay attention to where I was going until I looked up and saw Bow Trail and 33rd Avenue SW. ... So not where I needed to be.

I get off at the next stop, cross the street and catch the other 301. Thusfar, I have managed to remain relatively dry. I board my 301 and it starts pissing rain from the sky and I have deal with a woman who not only wants her seat but also wants half of mine. I think, I can deal with this for a little longer. I get to my stop and finally, finally am at the theatre, half an hour late for my shift. I already know shit is going to be hitting the fan because there's no way in hell that Indiana Jones isn't busy. And that's when I start getting poured on.

Also, my staff are all incompetent and they know I hate them. New jobs, anyone?

Things that made today bearable: Starbucks water, Meghan, Adam, Shopper's Drugmart at 3 a.m., and Tabatha doing zombie watch for me while I peed.

Fail, Microsoft. This is why I don't pay for your products. Not only are they ridiculously overpriced, but you also make terrible products.

I'll be the first to admit, I am an Office junkie. Microsoft Office, not the television show. I can't help it. I was raised on PCs and I work with PCs but at home, I have a Macbook. Now, when they made Office 2008 for Macs, I was beyond stoked. Office? On a Mac? Hells yes. All the more reason to get one, right?

Wrong. I got a grey copy, which I'm all fine with because I don't really like supporting Microsoft, but then Mac gave me an update warning on my Office software. Okay, I'll install it, because the last time I didn't install an update, my computer wouldn't recognize CDs. Terrible, terrible. I installed it and then went to open a Word document. I was met with a registration request. Uh oh. This is no good because I don't have a Product ID number! And I can't do what it wants me to do [open the software and open the About portion of the Help tab] because I can't open the software without registering it!

In short, Microsoft is why we can't have nice things.

Good things about today? Green tea, Meghan hangouts, awesome new raincoats, cheap flats, and smoke seshes.

    Oh. My. God.

Yes. So much yes. I ordered it today to wear to my next Communist Dance Party with Mitchell. I think it means we have to ditch the good vodka for Stoli, though.

You know how sometimes people will sneak up behind you and poke you in the sides? Someone did that to me on Sunday and I accidentally punched them in the face. Oops. My Dad was there and he just laughed and told James that he could've warned him that would happen.

New phone. New number. Me and my Blackberry are certainly very happy together. I'll still have to use my American phone when I'm in the states.

It was a perfect 20 degrees today and it was so happymaking while we were sitting outside of Starbucks, talking about music and Scrubs. Seriously. Such a Scrubs kick lately. It's kind of amazing.

I'm ridiculously exhausted so let's just say there's nothing better than good friends, good hangs, and good tea.

I finished it but I'm having trouble getting motivated to start my next book.

Twenty-two days until I leave the city and twenty-two days until I can finally take a deep breath again. Sorry about yesterday's post. I should learn to stop being surprised by people, though.

I forgot how much I really like Thursday. I should listen to more of them. It seems like years and years ago since I saw them the first time. It'll be six years in July. Jesus.

This just came in the mail for me. Perfect.

    Monday, March 31, 2008

It's almost time for me to go to bed and I realized that before I go to bed, I always check a couple of different blogs to see what's been posted and what new gadgets are on the market for me to drool over. There are a few things I've been coveting lately and one of them is the last generation iMac. I liked the white, not so much the silver. Obviously, the blackberry that I'm getting tomorrow. Er. Later today. And tonight, while I was reading Dr. Seuss' Wikipedia page, I realized that there are some books by him that I'd really like to get, so I'm going to probably end up adding those to my wish list.

I have a big, long list of things to do tomorrow at work and I'm going to accomplish every single one of them so when Karen sees my vacation request, she won't say "WTF NO FAIL!"

Also, um, Pinder's kind of insanely awesome.

Look, I got a gun out there in my purse, and up to now, I've been forgivin' and forgettin' because of the way I was brought up. But I'll tell you one thing, if you ever say another word about me, or make another indecent proposal, I'm gonna get that gun of mine, and I'm gonna change you from rooster to a hen with one shot.

    BOUNCE

Sometimes that's all you need to get yourself psyched.

    Thursday, March 20, 2008

Oh, I see what you did there, life.

Forget this. I'm going to add more things to my wish list.

    Wednesday, March 19, 2008

    Do you ever struggle with...

Reading ten poems? It really shouldn't be difficult. I mean, once I finally got into The Long Dark Tea Time Of The Soul, it was easy to finish. I finished my last book in a matter days. Alright, when I go on lunch today, I'll make sure to read at least ten poems in it. I'm halfway done Falling Up, a book of poetry by Shel Silverstein. I remember loving his poetry when I was a little kid. I'm reading it now and kind of going "WTF?" at my eight year old self.

Oh, my God. When did I become a science fiction geek and why do I suddenly want this so badly? I really, really need to stop looking at Douglas Adams' wikipedia page.

Whatever. Things have been going good lately. I drink green tea until I'm motivated to do real work and then when I'm bored of doing real work, I check Perez. Now there's a blog worth reading. If by worth reading, I actually mean worth checking once a day to find out who is in rehab now. I took a picture with the cutest kitten the other day. And I actually mean it. That thing was more adorable than anything in the entire planet. Even if certain people think the kitten is actually the devil.

Things I'm currently cursing? DHL, Customs, Empire Theatres, the fact that I didn't bring a water bottle to work today, and the fact that I work tonight when my favourite show is on.

Things I'm currently loving? Telus getting the Curve 8830, iPod 1GB shuffle, green tea, my ridiculous ability to remember numbers, and kittens who watch me get up and go to the bathroom.

    Monday, March 10, 2008

I decided to vote no on going to Durham because it isn't really the course I wanted to be taking and I'm having a little too much fun being here right now to leave here to go somewhere I don't really know anyone.

This weekend I read The Black Dahlia Files. It's interesting. I love it because there's nothing I love more than a cold case the author has purportedly solved. I don't really think that's the case most of the time but Donald Wolfe always does such an awesome job of making me think so. He was the one who wrote about the murder of Marilyn Monroe in The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe.

Seriously, conspiracy theories are awesome. The Grassy Knoll? Area 51? Love it.

Another thing I love and want more than I want my next breath?

If you know me, you know how much I love cataloguing. Seriously, I keep spreadsheets dedicated to my CDs, the CDs I plan to buy, and other stuff. This is like, my ultimate wet dream.

    Wait, what?
